OVERLAY CROP GUIDE
Before and After Photo Alignment Tool Online
Updated June 19, 2026
Overlay Crop is designed for users who need to align separate before-and-after files rather than immediately combine them into a collage. Each layer can be resized and positioned independently inside one shared crop frame.
What a photo alignment tool does
A photo alignment tool makes separate images consistent in subject size, position, rotation, crop ratio, and output dimensions.
The goal is not necessarily to merge the photos. The aligned files can remain separate for use in sliders, animations, videos, and portfolios.
Why standard batch cropping can fail
Automatic batch tools often apply the same source coordinates to every image. That works only when the originals were captured with nearly identical framing.
If one portrait was taken closer or a product sits in a different position, identical coordinates produce inconsistent results. A shared output frame with independent layer controls is more flexible.
Core alignment controls
Overlay Crop includes the controls required for precise comparison work.
- Upload up to five images
- Move and zoom each layer independently
- Adjust opacity for transparent comparison
- Hide, show, lock, and rotate layers
- Choose standard or custom aspect ratios
- Enter exact output dimensions
- Download one image or all images as a ZIP
A practical alignment workflow
Position and lock the reference image. Select the comparison image, reduce its opacity, and adjust the zoom until the subject sizes match.
Move the selected layer until stable visual landmarks overlap. Restore full opacity and switch between layers to verify the result.
How the shared frame works
The crop frame determines the final shape and pixel size of every export. Each source image can still use a different position and zoom behind that frame.
This approach gives consistent output dimensions without requiring the originals to share the same resolution or camera framing.
Desktop and mobile editing
On desktop, drag the image to move it and use the wheel over the canvas to zoom around the pointer. Slider values can also be entered directly for precise changes.
On mobile, use one finger to move the active layer and two fingers to pinch and zoom. The sliders use relative dragging, so touching an empty part of a track does not make the value jump.
Private browser-based processing
Images are read and processed locally inside the browser. This is useful for portraits, client previews, internal drafts, and other files that should not be unnecessarily uploaded to a third-party editing server.
The tool is suitable for retouching, photo restoration, fitness tracking, treatment documentation, renovations, cleaning services, landscaping, and product photography.
FAQ
Is the alignment tool free to use?
The browser editor can be used without creating an account.
Are uploaded images permanently stored?
No. The editing files are processed locally and are not stored on the Overlay Crop server.
Can I export several aligned versions at once?
Yes. Up to five layers can be aligned and exported in one session.
Overlay image crop editor
Upload your original and edited photos, lower the top image opacity, then align facial features or fixed background points. Every exported image uses the same crop ratio and pixel dimensions.
